Listen To The Sea Cow

Fat AcceptanceI must say, nothing aggravates me more than hearing someone say, “You have such a pretty face, if only you were thinner,” or, “At least she’s got a beautiful face,” whether in reference to me or any voluptuous woman.  While I respect that not everyone will find beauty in pudge, it’s absurd to essentially insult someone with a backhanded compliment.  Like the manatee (a.k.a. sea cow) says, it’s perfectly possible and common to be fat and beautiful.  I know many gorgeous plus-size women who aren’t attractive simply for their faces, but for their bodies as well (and sometimes MORE SO for their bodies).  The whole “at least you have a nice face” thing is tired and over-used, and quite frankly, untrue.  Seriously, listen to the sea cow.

Agreed. What makes someone beautiful is letting their true self shine. If you perceive yourself as ugly then others will perceive you as ugly. If you hate yourself, then others will dislike you. If you are an ugly person on the inside then people will soon see through your facade and know you for who you are. Be a beautiful person on the inside: be generous, loving, caring, tolerant, etc. not just to other people but to yourself as well and it will shine forth and your inner beauty will show on the outside. Just because some are blind and cannot see true beauty does not make a person any less beautiful.

I’ve been having to do a lot of soul searching and research because I’ve had the body image complex (still do, honestly) and I’m building my self esteem and self confidence, it is a slow and tedious process but well worth it. I truly appreciate you and others who advocate acceptance. Thank you for posting!
